When it comes to women-targeted tech, companies used to assume that a female’s product choices revolve around just one feature: the color pink. In other words, slather a pink coating on a laptop or mp3 player and you could supposedly transform it into a must-have for female gadget shoppers. Following that line of logic, a chorus line of Pepto-tinted and Swarovski crystal-encrusted keyboards, earbuds, smartphones and other electronics have sashayed into stores, crafted under the erroneous assumption that women can’t resist ultra-girly merchandise.
If you’re reading about the best 80s toys you can still buy, you’re probably indulging in nostalgia, and thinking things were way better in the 80s than they are in the 2010s. Price: $49.95 E-Sports are becoming more and more popular. For some of us, the idea of sitting in some kind of arena and being a spectator to gamers playing in a multi-player video game is very new (and kind of crazy sounding). But we’ve continued to see major sponsors come running into the space…
Notion is a home intelligence system that was recently funded on Kickstarter that uses a small, smart, multi-function sensor to detect quite a significant number of things in your home: a water leak, when a door/cabinet opens and closes, temperature and sound. When any of these things are detected, Notion will send a message to your smartphone (works with both iOS and Android). For example, if you place a Notion on your front door, it can tell you if someone knocks, if the door is opened, or if it doesn’t get shut. Its potential uses are incredible. If you put it on, say a liquor cabinet, it can tell you when that cabinet is opened. It also has a temperature sensor and can tel you if your house is getting too hot or too cold when you’re away from home. It isn’t yet available, but it is expected to ship in July.
While it sounds like something Batman would be called upon to save the world from, Brunton’s Hydrogen Reactor is actually an innocuous, albeit robust, deliverer of power to portable devices. It’s a piece of scientific…

Fine, fine.  It’s a vacuum.  BUT it’s a wireless robot cleaning vacuum they’ll actually want this year!  Roomba 980 from iRobot not only vacuums up almost anything (with technology that won’t let it fall down the stairs) you can also schedule while you’re away at work via the app and then it automatically recharges itself when it’s done.  I mean.  #Technology

Speaking of cameras…This is either the prettiest or ugliest camera bag you’ve ever seen, depending on how you feel about black feathers and red velvet. But for the goth girl in all of us Marc Jacobs made this small camera bag. And it’s the perfect gift for your friend with an affinity for black lipstick and hi-tech lens power. More recently, gadget makers have begun paying more attention to what women really want — beyond color palettes. Although men still spend more than the ladies on consumer electronics — an average of $968 compared to $631 in 2010 — females’ financial investment in the market isn’t negligible [source: Consumer Electronics Association]. For example, women contributed about $90 billion to consumer electronics consumption in 2007 [source: McGraw]. And the product features attracting those female dollars revolve around functionality rather than just adorableness. Women tend to seek out gadgets that are well-designed, durable and straightforward to use — kind of like a classic handbag [source: Marroitt].
